According to the National Violence Against Women Survey, 1 in 6 U.S. women will be the victim of sexual abuse or attempted sexual abuse in their lifetime. The act itself is damage enough. But what happens afterwards… How do women rebuild their lives? (PLEASE NOTE: This play deals with incidents of sexual abuse. Accounts in the play have been taken from actual survivors of sexual abuse. Names have been changed to protect confidentiality. Survivors of sexual abuse may find this play upsetting and confronting.)


afterwards was first performed at the Visy Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse as a part of Short+Sweet Brisbane 2014, directed by Camilla Nicole Niebling, featuring Jessie Stringer, Donna Gomez, Stacey de Waard, Chantelle Gardiner and Lewis Edward. Pictured is the Sarah Street Collective production in San Marcos, Texas in 2018, directed by Laurel Toupal and performed by Kailey Hyman, Rachel Webb, Jada Owens, Emily Absher and Alana Garcia, with Matthew Kennedy on drums and choreography by Laurel Toupal.
